Chris Knox’s experience with The Horton Group began in 2000 as an Account Executive in Orland Park, Illinois. “Since then, I have been mentored by two people and have also been a mentor to others. I spent several years working with manufacturers and contractors of various sizes,” Chris said. In 2004, Chris made the decision to move to warmer weather and further his knowledge of Workers’ Compensation.
Chris views himself as a risk management consultant for his customers. “I analyze my customers’ insurance exposures and work with them to develop the appropriate risk management techniques,” he said. “I review past audits, loss runs and other insurance forms for accuracy, and develop strategies to lower my clients’ insurance costs.”
Chris spends a great deal of time focusing on the unique needs and risks of his clients. “I love learning about many different businesses, and how each one has its own particular story,” he said. “After learning about my clients, I work to fulfill the needs they have, and to educate them about the needs they did not even realize they had. I work to build trust for years to come, and not just for the upcoming renewal cycle.” When asked to recall the most memorable moment in his career, Chris said, “A large client of mine had property values totaling more than $16 million, covered by two separate insurance companies. One company covered the first $2.5 million, and the other covered the remaining value. Early one morning, there was a major fire, which at the time was the largest fire in Chicago in more than 20 years. The fire caused $8 million in property damage, including building, contents and business income. We responded immediately and involved our claims advocate with both insurance companies, as we knew that the loss would affect the limits of both insurance policies. Both companies paid the loss quickly and because of our in-house claims advocate, there was minimal hassle to my client. As a result, my client could immediately begin the rebuilding process.”
Chris grew up in a small town in Illinois before moving to Chicago. He now resides in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and daughter. The three of them love going to the park or visiting Oak Creek Canyon, where he and his wife were married. Some of Chris’ favorite hobbies are discussing politics or playing poker. He also loves reading about history or following current events in his free time.
