The most important concept that Patrick Johnson tries to communicate when meeting with existing and potential clients is the difference between price and cost.

“An insurance plan might be priced cheaper, but it will cost you more in the long run if your risks aren’t managed properly,” Patrick said. “I feel it’s my job to help clients understand that shopping for the lowest rate each year will not lower costs over the long term. I want them to become proactive and truly take control of their risks.”

Patrick came to Horton in 2003 with more than 14 years of experience in both underwriting and account management within the construction division of a large insurance company. He feels that Horton’s value-added services such as claims advocacy, legal expertise and an in-house occupational safety company give him opportunities to make an impact on a client’s total cost of risk.

“We have to bring value to our clients beyond the procurement of insurance policies. That is an area where Horton excels and sets us apart,” said Patrick.

In 2005, Patrick performed some due diligence work for a large national maintenance company, including a review of their policy and pricing. He found some major errors in the financial structure of their program and saved them nearly $1,000,000 in premiums and $650,000 in collateral. Needless to say, they are still one of Patrick’s loyal clients.

Patrick specializes in risk management for the construction industry. His areas of expertise include loss control programs, alternative risk transfer solutions, and contractual risk transfer.

Patrick grew up in Lawrence, Kansas and attended the University of Kansas. He lives in Naperville with his wife and three children, enjoys golf and cheering on his Jayhawks.
