Paul Haas serves as a business insurance and risk management specialist for Horton, focused on the agriculture, manufacturing and transportation industries.
Haas is responsible for providing clients with comprehensive, cost-effective and innovative solutions to meet their most complex, risk-related challenges. Paul Haas is passionate about helping his clients protect what they have built.
“People pour their lives into their businesses,” said Paul. “My responsibility is to protect what my clients spend a lifetime building – both for them and for their families. Risk management is about ensuring that all the years of hard work and dedication that go into a business aren't ruined by one mishap.”
Paul's commitment to protecting people's businesses is not surprising; at one point, he had considered starting a business of his own. In fact, when Paul describes what attracted him to his chosen field of insurance, it sounds a lot like entrepreneurship: “The insurance industry is a marketplace that rewards innovation and ingenuity,” said Paul. “Nowhere is this more true than at Horton.”
“From healthcare to new fraud protection technology for retailers, everything is constantly changing,” said Paul. “Having an insurance broker who is up-to-date on all the changes is paramount.” Paul focuses on providing his clients with prompt, accurate information in a professional manner.
Paul points out that – unlike agents interested in promoting only one carrier - Horton has great relationships with hundreds of different carriers. “This enables us to get our clients the most competitive prices on insurance,” said Paul. “More important, we have the knowledge on how to use our clients' premium dollars in the most effective way.”
Unlike traditional brokers, Horton goes far beyond selling insurance to selling all that Horton can do for clients – from risk management to OSHA compliance. Horton partners with clients to not only protect, but also help grow their businesses.
Prior to joining Horton, Paul was a direct writer with Federated Insurance, which focuses on manufacturing clients. “Handling the entire process from start to finish in the property and casualty, employee benefits, and life and disability fields was invaluable experience,” said Paul.
Paul also credits being on the Track & Field team at Indiana University, where he rose to Team Captain, with teaching him leadership skills and determination. “We worked 50 hours a week on top of our classes,” said Paul. “That teaches you the value of working hard and never giving up - no matter what it takes.”
For Paul, the most rewarding aspects of his position at Horton are building close relationships with clients and solving problems for them. “Not everyone can be an expert in insurance,” said Paul. “But everyone needs it.”
Paul earned his Bachelors of Science in Accounting & Finance from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He grew up in Noblesville, Indiana and currently lives in Chicago. On weekends, he enjoys playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He is also an avid supporter of his alma mater, Indiana University.
