Rick Labian serves as a benefits advisor for Horton, focused on delivering cost-conscious group benefits and advising clients on the impact of healthcare reform. Rick has extensive experience in developing strategies and solutions to help clients control costs and achieve their business goals while providing benefits for their employees.
Rick Labian brings nearly 25 years of benefits experience to The Horton Group.
“I've needed all that experience and more with the Affordable Care Act,” Rick said with a smile. Rick foresees continued change, trial and error, and legislative stops and starts with healthcare reform.
“But putting our heads in the sand is not a strategy,” said Rick. “The math of America's healthcare trend was simply unsustainable. We need to continue to roll up our sleeves and do our best to help our clients. Years from now when things have settled down, we'll be able to say we helped our clients get through it all.”
Rick's goals are to retain 100% of his clients by providing good advice and good value. In working with clients, Rick always has an eye on costs since health benefits are such a large cost item. He is also focused on growing his client base and meeting the benefits needs of these new customers.
Rick's philosophy of customer service and advocacy is simple: success comes from building trusted relationships with clients and helping them solve their problems. In fact, the aspect of Rick's role that he finds most rewarding is collaborating with clients and with his exceptional team members at Horton.
Rick was a benefits advisor with Burt and Associates Benefit Planning when the firm merged with Horton in March 2014. He is excited to be able to bring his clients the resources of the nation's 37th largest privately held insurance agency. Rick was previously with National Insurance Services for 21 years where he held positions in client service, sales, advising, management and strategic planning. Rick got his start in the insurance business as an underwriter for CIGNA Healthcare.
Rick's strong sense of responsibility to his clients, his natural curiosity and his problem-solving skills are all assets as he helps clients navigate the complexities of today's insurance and healthcare fields.
In his free time, Rick enjoys travel, movies, sports and spending time with his wife, Sheila, their son and three daughters.
