Tom Palmer has never been comfortable using a sales pitch. He prefers to shake hands, sit down and just talk.
“I'm not good at being scripted,” Tom explained. “I try to make the people I meet feel comfortable enough to have an honest conversation.”
Discovering the important issues facing a client business is priority number one for Tom and his team. This always seems to lead to a conversation about dollars and cents.
“I have a math mind and can relate well to the thought processes of CFOs and comptrollers,” Tom said. “It is easy to view insurance as a commodity buy and want to simply shop for the lowest price. It is my job to show businesses that worrying about finding the lowest premium each year just puts them at the mercy of the market. We try to focus on proactively addressing the real cost- drivers through services like loss prevention and claims advocacy.” A producer at The Horton Group since 1990 and principal since 1992, Tom has seen the company grow from 40 employees to nearly 400. He truly believes that the company's growth has been driven by the needs of its clients.
“We've always had our finger on the pulse of the industries we serve,” Tom said. “The Horton Group has reinvested a great deal of money into the services that keep our clients more profitable and our own company growing. No one here is looking to make a quick buck.”
Tom is a graduate of Brother Rice High School and is involved in their Alumni Association. He attended Northern Illinois University and has continued his education with various courses and seminars on insurance and risk management.
Tom and his wife live in Oak Lawn and are active members of St. Gerald's parish. He enjoys golf, traveling to Florida and watching the White Sox with his children and grandchildren.
