According to the Department of Transportation22% of all vehicle crashes and 16% of the fatalities – in the U.S. –  are due to severe weather such as rain, snow, sleet, and ice. When the unexpected happens, and you’re stranded in your vehicle – are you prepared to take action?

When the temperatures start to drop:

  • Have all of your fluids topped off such as gas, oil, windshield wiper fluid and antifreeze.
  •   For extra traction in icy conditions carry a bag of salt and sand in your trunk. These can be the ultimate lifesavers to freeing your vehicle.
  •   When clearing snow, make sure to remove it from all parts of your car: headlights, brake lights, windows and the top of your vehicle – visibility is crucial in these conditions.
  •  Have your contact numbers saved in your cell phone for easy access if something were to happen. Recommended numbers are your insurance agent, towing service or auto club.
  • Keep a cold-weather kit in your trunk. It should include a warm blanket, hat, gloves, granola bar, bottled water, first aid kit, flashlight, and cell phone charger.
