Over the first half of 2015, more than 100 million health care records were compromised, according to a report from IBM. The report points to a dangerous upward trend, with five of the eight largest health care data breaches in history having occurred in the first half of 2015.
The trend has placed health care as a leading sector of security incidents in the first 10 months of 2015. In that time, 34 percent of records were compromised—a staggering jump from the 0.63 percent of health care records compromised between January 2011 and December 2014.
Data breaches are a growing and costly risk, especially in the health care sector.
