Elizabeth Hoch is the Vice President, Strategic Risk Solutions for Horton’s Risk Advisory division. She works closely with the Minnesota team to develop an upstream sales strategy tailored for the large and complex, loss-sensitive business segment.

Her goal is to facilitate the growth of Horton’s practice by providing client-facing services tailored to risk-management sized accounts, including stewardship and renewal processes, as part of the company’s retention strategy. Additionally, she will leverage her expertise in broking services to navigate the complexities of large, complex, loss-sensitive risks, including high excess placements.

Elizabeth’s professional journey started in the small business marketplace at a private company and progressed through the midsize companies to the large and complex segment, working with global organizations. Her diverse experience has equipped her with the knowledge and skills necessary for her current role, making it feel like a full-circle moment in her career.

“Nothing is more worthwhile to me than when a client thanks me for simplifying things for them,” she says. “If I can create rapport with the clients I work with and improve the process for them, that’s a win for me.”

While recognizing the benefits of technological advancements, Elizabeth firmly believes that commercial insurance remains a people-driven industry. Whether it’s underwriting or client service, she emphasizes the significance of personal interactions and the human touch in this field.

In Elizabeth’s view, the true measure of success lies in the front-line client interaction. “When you look at Net Promoter responses, clients never comment on their Sales Representative – they always mention the service team,” she says. “With the exception of claims, service is what it’s all about for the client. It’s one of the most important things we provide, along with expertise, and it’s the main thing that will retain the business.”

Outside of her professional life, Elizabeth enjoys a fulfilling personal life as well. She has been happily married for 25 years and is a proud Minneapolis metro native. Her interests extend beyond her work, as she has a passion for classic cars and an appreciation for mid-century modern design.
