Robert Lane
Senior Sales Executive
Robert "Bobby" Lane is a Senior Sales Executive for Horton’s Employee Benefit Solutions. In this role, Bobby is responsible for providing expert employee benefits consulting, bringing new clients on board, and servicing and retaining existing clients. He is part of a team of employee benefits-focused specialists dedicated to delivering innovative healthcare solutions to employers.
The original plan for Bobby was to become a sport’s agent. However, the economic collapse of 2008 changed Lane’s course to a different direction. “I walked into insurance, and I haven’t looked back a moment since.” Before joining Horton in 2017, Bobby had been involved in insurance for over nine years with his last position running his own agency selling voluntary benefits. In that position, he dived into a diverse client basis spanning across the nation – gathering deep industry knowledge and learning that the smallest details are critical.
Bobby's attraction and decision to join Horton came as a direct result of his interactions with Ken Olson. He loved how Ken is a visionary regarding benefits and how he takes a forward-thinking approach to handling issues for our clients – “we should always strive to be proactive,” Bobby stated.
“Details are critical.” From this philosophy, Bobby continues to take pride in finding the most challenging opportunities that others will walk away from, and create or provide out-of-the-box solutions to his primary focus of hospitality clientele.
“Horton is the direct embodiment of helping those who have complex needs and limited resources achieve a higher level of performance.” It comes down to helping make the client’s life easier and that’s what we are here to do, every day.”
Regarding sacred concepts, Bobby holds a strong emphasis on maintaining a consistent message to employees while also being true to the employer. “By being true to the employer, we allow a situation to create reduced costs, workload, and happier employees.”
When looking at healthcare, he considers the whole picture – employee health and wellness, legal, compliance, and even technology – in addition to the insurance policies. Specifically, with technology, the marketplace is faced with an incredible evolution, and we are not just talking about benefits administration. “We are speaking to data capture, seeking new medical approaches, and doctor visits. Healthcare is continually changing at a rapid rate.”
Bobby has always wanted to be a shareholder and partner in a company that believed in internal perpetuation and private-ownership. As generational transitions are happening across the board for various business sectors, “my generation will be leading the forefront in the next five to seven years; and I want to be there with those leaders. Horton is the best fit for this future," he stated.
He is proud to be a new member of the Horton family and knows that “no matter how complicated a client’s needs, [he] has the team and experience to navigate [customers] through a variety of situations.”
Bobby attended Michigan State, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science. He then pursued a law degree at Loyola University in Los Angeles, California. Originally, from Utica, New York, he moved to Chicago in 2008. In his time away from work, Bobby enjoys spending time with friends, watching, and playing all kinds of sports.
