Transportation Safety Programs
Clients in the transportation industry and clients with larger fleets of vehicles, including private passenger vehicles, are exposed to the risk of catastrophic incidents that result in higher costs, bad publicity or cancellation of auto insurance coverages.
Many of these clients are also exposed to inspection and enforcement of DOT regulations.
Trucking comes with many challenges. One of these challenges is maintaining an acceptable Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) score, which is recorded in the FMSCA’s Safety Measurement System (SMS). Not only do clients risk increased inspection frequency, but poor scores generally reflect increased costs and negatively impact marketability and customer relationships. Horton’s transportation safety consultants work with this data and provide a meaningful plan of action to reduce risk, maintain relationships, and ensure business continuity.
Horton Safety Consultants employ transportation safety professionals who possess the Certified Director of Safety (CDS) designation sponsored by the North American Transportation Management Institute.
Specialized transportation safety services include the development of written safety policies and procedures, driver training, DOT compliance assistance, assistance in selecting and deploying telematics and camera systems, distracted driving programs, and accident review boards. Telematics and cameras are great, but without a strategy in place to deal with the data collected, they aren’t worth the investment.
Our consultants perform mock DOT audits to let clients know their areas of vulnerability and assist clients in developing strategies to improve poor SMS scores. Because our consultants are cross-trained in both OSHA and DOT, potential gaps in compliance are eliminated through the turnkey delivery of services.
