America’s New Direction

Everyone agrees that the mood across America is changing rapidly. We are in a new period of national urgency, post-global pandemic crisis, with worries about financial collapse, nuclear proliferation, and global instability. In their 1997 book, The Fourth Turning, Neil Howe and the late William Strauss predicted that this was just where America would be today. They uncovered a remarkable pattern in American history, a cycle of recurring eras driven by generational changes.

Now, right on schedule, our own fourth turning has arrived. And Neil Howe has returned with an extraordinary new prediction in his new book, The Fourth Turning is Here. Neil Howe is an acclaimed historian, economist, and demographer and the bestselling author (with William Strauss) of The Fourth Turning, as well as over a dozen books on demographic and social change. The nation’s leading thinker on today’s generations—who they are, what motivates them, and how they will shape America’s future—Howe is Managing Director of Demography at Hedgeye Risk Management, an independent financial research firm, as well as President of LifeCourse Associates, which serves hundreds of corporate, nonprofit, and government clients. He lives with his family in Great Falls, Virginia.
