Many employers struggle with how to handle health and welfare benefit eligibility and employee contributions during employee leaves of absence. We encourage employers to proactively think about their leave policies and how they will handle benefits and payments while an employee is out on leave. In this webinar, we will provide an overview of the compliance requirements for handling health and welfare benefits during different types of leave – protected, unprotected, paid, and unpaid – along with some guidelines for employers to follow in developing and administering their leave policies.

David Flotten has over 24 years of experience in employee benefits and employment law with a particular focus on health and welfare plan compliance and employee benefits strategic planning. He has helped employers deal with difficult compliance issues related to ERISA, health reform, HIPAA, and more. David regularly presents seminars on the ACA, employee benefits compliance and other HR topics, including for the College of Continuing & Professional Studies at the University of Minnesota. He has also taught the PHR/SPHR and SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP exam prep courses.
