Kari Potter is a Senior Claims Advocate for Horton’s Risk Advisory Services. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing claim assignments, facilitating claim reviews, coverage analysis and working with carriers.
With a robust 11-year tenure in the insurance industry, Kari’s journey began as an adjuster for six years before she transitioned to claims consulting. Her wealth of knowledge equips her to adeptly guide clients through challenging situations, a skill that has garnered her numerous accolades from appreciative clients. Her consistent high-performance ratings at Nationwide set a standard she is eager to maintain at Horton.
Kari finds fulfillment in assisting people during their times of need, understanding that claims are challenging for all parties involved.
“Insurance is something no one likes paying for or thinking about, but something everyone needs,” Kari says. “Having adequate coverage is important, and it’s crucial to recognize when to use it. From a claim standpoint, the current legislative culture is quite out of control, and claims advocates must stay updated on the differences per state and much more.”
At Horton, Kari leverages her unique ability to form personal connections and establish meaningful relationships, often forming genuine friendships along the way. She is committed to bringing her comprehensive industry knowledge to Horton while further expanding her expertise. Kari’s strong customer-focused philosophy is evident in her approach, which prioritizes listening and gathering information to assist clients effectively.
“It is important that clients feel supported by their broker, even if that means a decision they may disagree with,” Kari says. “Helping the customer realize what has happened and why can solve most hot-button issues.”
Kari’s unwavering commitment to her clients is palpable in her work ethic; she seldom signs off without ensuring all customer needs are met. Her methodical approach ensures timely resolutions to customer inquiries and concerns, reinforcing her clients’ trust and confidence in her.
Born and raised in Iowa, Kari is married to her high school sweetheart, Danny. They have three children: daughters Quinn and Shay and son Tate. Both girls play competitive softball, keeping the family busy with activities every night and weekend. Kari and Danny, who both played competitive sports, enjoy this active lifestyle. The family also loves spending time with relatives, watching sports, boating and traveling, typically taking 2-3 annual vacations.
