“I work with a variety of medical groups, physicians, hospitals and clinics to establish comprehensive risk management programs,” said Pauline Jakubiec, Risk Management Consultant for the Horton Group. “While developing and implementing these programs, it is important to focus on innovative ways to drive down our clients’ costs and anxiety, while limiting their internal workloads.”

Pauline Jakubiec arrived at The Horton Group with more than 20 years of medical malpractice claims, risk management and consulting experience. “I have gained extensive knowledge through my previous work as a director with two of the largest hospital systems in the State of Illinois,” Pauline stated. “I was very fortunate to be a part of the Provena/Resurrection family, now known as Presence Health, and the renowned Advocate Health Care system.” Pauline has taught and lectured extensively, both locally and abroad, on various risk and claims-related topics. Her adept ability to connect with clients and the Horton staff provides an opportunity to successfully impact patient safety, while reducing risk and potential liabilities within the healthcare setting.

Beyond her role and responsibilities at Horton, Pauline is very involved with supporting professional organizations such as the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and the Illinois Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ISHRM). She was recently selected to be the Chair for the 2020 term of the ASHRM Chapter Leader Task Force. As for ISHRM, Pauline is serving a two-year term on the Executive Board. This is one of the two Illinois chapters. This organization serves all of Illinois’ downstate and collar county facilities, including the specific downstate clientele.

In addition, she is also a member of The Institute for Healthcare Improvement/National Patient Safety Foundation (IHI/NPSF), and served as Executive Board Member, Committee Chair and Committee Member of the Chicagoland Health Care Risk Management Society (CHRMS). She is a Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) and maintains an Illinois Producer’s license.

Horton’s passion at its core is to lead clients to a higher level of performance, which means driving down their cost, workload, and risk. Pauline’s industry recognition heightens her abilities and continued efforts of these three core areas of –

  • Innovative ways to drive down cost
    She will assist customers in their preparations for carrier risk assessments to drive successful outcomes, reduce liabilities, and increase patient safety.
  • Limiting internal workloads
    Pauline will advise on policy and procedure development including current policies to limit any exposures and tailor these programs to the customers’ needs. She will lead the standardization and implementation to optimize our healthcare customers’ efficiency.
  • Reducing anxiety and risks
    Clients will rely on her to assess their office practices and assist with patient situations if needed, as they occur. Pauline can also coach a physician when required to appear before a committee regarding a particular loss/claim. She also provides educational lectures and develops programs for our clients and their staff members to keep all parties informed.

Pauline recently achieved a Masters of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law from Loyola University in Chicago. This was a two-year process while working in a dedicated fashion as a Risk Management Consultant at Horton. She also has a Masters degree in Healthcare Management from Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School, a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences from DePaul University, and a Paralegal Certificate from Roosevelt University. She is widely regarded as one of the leading risk management specialists in the Chicagoland healthcare community.
