Rob English is a Vice President of Horton’s Personal Insurance team. He is part of a team of specialists dedicated to delivering insurance solutions tailored to the needs of individuals and families.
Prior to his arrival via acquisition in 2014, Rob was a client executive for a smaller agency in the southwest suburbs. Being affiliated with this smaller-sized agency gave Rob valuable experience working in both the sales and service sides of insurance. He gained an understanding of real-world applications for insurance coverage in people’s unique life situations. One of Rob’s most powerful memories occurred during a meeting with a client returning home for the first time following a house fire. Upon discovering that his most treasured possession – VHS tapes of his children growing up – had survived the fire, the client wept with joy. For Rob, this experience underscored that insurance is, above all, a business about people.
Client advocacy and customer service are not just buzzwords for Rob – they are his top priorities. He appreciates the customized approach Horton takes to meeting clients’ diverse needs. The most rewarding aspect of Rob’s position at Horton is being part of a team that shares the common goal of always putting the customer first. This unwavering commitment means that the client’s needs come first in every aspect of Horton’s daily operations, ensuring that Rob can always deliver on his promises to clients.
Rob firmly believes that the insurance industry has become too commoditized. He points to ads that promote buying insurance in under 15 minutes, noting that insurance is far too complex and important for people to risk choosing it from a website. Rob’s approach is different. He believes that educating the client is key, Â especially in times of volatility in the marketplace. This commitment to client education ensures that his clients are informed and empowered when making insurance decisions.
“Client advocacy is where the rubber meets the road for the agent,” said Rob. “Unlike direct writers, we don’t work for the insurance companies – we work with the insurance companies on behalf of our clients.”
Rob attended Illinois State University in Normal, IL, where he met his wife of over 30 years. He grew up in Chicago’s southwest suburbs. Rob lives in Plainfield with his wife, and their kids are currently attending college. In his time away from work, Rob enjoys the outdoors, fishing, camping and gardening with his family. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader, coached youth football and taught children’s ministry for many years. He still participates in missions with his church on behalf of the needy and underserved.
Many years ago, a man he respected very much said, “If you’re not helping others, what good are you?”
