Erik Hinz Joins the Horton Group

Employee Benefits Expert Leads Horton’s Minnesota Expansion

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota: The Horton Group, one of the largest privately-held insurance brokers in the United States, announced today that Erik Hinz will be joining the agency as an Employee Benefits Sales Executive in its Minneapolis office.

Hinz will be joining the company from Associated Benefits and Risk Consulting, where he was a Senior Vice President and Senior Benefits Consultant for the majority of the last 20+ years. In that role, Hinz worked with clients on a variety of their insurance needs, including employee benefits, property & casualty, and 401(k). Hinz prides himself on delivering excellent service with a side of humor. “Buyers will first work with people that they like and that treat them with respect, but also appreciate people that can add humor and have fun while doing it,” he stated. 

Hinz will make an excellent addition to the Horton Group by bringing his extensive benefits experience as the agency enters a new market in Minnesota. “In a market where the cost of insurance continues to rise for both employee and employer, the Minnesota market is ripe for new, bold and innovative solutions,” said Hinz.    

“Employers in this market haven’t yet been introduced to innovative ways to curb their insurance costs such as Rx and stop-loss carveouts, direct primary care and contracting, value-based care, medical tourism, and concierge services. These concepts have been rippling through the U.S., and the Twin Cities metro area is next. It’s an exciting time,” said Ken Olson, President of Employee Benefit Solutions at the Horton Group.

Hinz graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Minor in Computer Science from Bemidji State University. He grew up on a farm in Foley, Minnesota and recently moved to downtown Minneapolis with his wife Nicole after spending 15 years in a western suburb of the city.
