There is an “alarming growth in the mental health and substance use affected population”

According to the Health and Human Services (HHS) Transformation Town Hall, June 2016.

The challenges faced by organizations throughout the United States in the provision of safe care for behavioral health patients are well known. Emergency departments, acute care, and long term settings are struggling to safely manage behavioral health patients in their treatment settings.

Designing a leading behavioral health strategy for the state has become a top and immediate priority in Illinois.

“The state has put together a robust group over the last year that is working very diligently to improve behavioral health in Illinois.”
Judith Gethner, Executive Director at Illinois Partners for Human Service

However, the realities of dismantling and transforming behavioral health treatment settings and services has proven, in the past, to be quite costly to society – both financially and socially.

This session will present the case for behavioral healthcare integration in various continuums, introducing strategies to mitigate liabilities and support safe, quality care to gain population health.
