Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Flagger Certification (Waukesha, WI)
Registration is from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. | Continental Breakfast for Attendees
Registration Fee: $75
In January 2020 all Wisconsin State Highway flaggers are required to be certified. Each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) conducts field reviews of work zones and a number of issues have been identified. This course is intended to educate employees on best practices as outlined by the WisDOT to keep them safe and their jobsite compliant. Our course will include a temporary certificate.
Intended Audience
• Safety professionals and risk managers• First and emergency responders• Streets, Highway and Utility Professionals including managers, supervisors and workers• Construction Professionals including onsite managers, supervisors and workers.
This course will cover the following flagger training requirements:
- Understand the requirements for proper personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrate the proper advance warning sign placement for flagging.
- Demonstrate the proper placement of temporary portable rumble strips.
- Demonstrate properly locating themselves in relation to traffic.
- Demonstrate properly locating themselves in relation to obstructions (clear escape route).
- Demonstrate proper single flagging technique.
- Demonstrate proper two-flagger flagging technique.
- Demonstrate proper flagging technique at an intersection.
- Demonstrate proper flagging technique when pilot cars are used.
- Demonstrate proper measures for warning others of non-compliant vehicles.
- Demonstrate proper technique when flagging at night.

Kyle Ricely is a Safety Consultant for Horton Safety Consultants, a Horton subsidiary that provides comprehensive safety consulting services to a growing number of industrial, construction, public entity, and service operations. Since 1991, Horton’s Safety Consultants team has offered clients a multitude of services designed to control exposure to risk at every level of operation.
Kyle joined Horton Safety Consultants in 2017 at our Waukesha, Wisconsin operation. Before Horton, Kyle’s experiences included providing clients with “part-time safety director” services, management of safety activities for the largest electrical contractor in Iowa, and providing safety services to an IL-based electrical utility provider.
