Edward C. Young, Jr., CWCA
Client Executive
When not relaxing at home with his wife and two young daughters, you could say that Ed Young, Jr. has a one-track mind. He is relentless in his pursuit of finding the most creative ways to lower client's Experience Modifier Rates.
Ed helped to create Horton's comprehensive guide for his clients to control workers' compensation costs from the moment that an incident occurs.
“We have built a process to help address the questions that arise when an injury occurs,” Ed said. “Simple steps like completing witness forms and implementing a return-to-work program can save a great deal of money in the long run.”
Ed also quantifies the value of The Horton Group's Risk Management Services through Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) reports. TCOR reports show the auxiliary costs that incur as a result of a mismanaged insurance plan beyond costs of claims. These costs include turnover, training, loss of production and increased absenteeism. “Insurance is only one component of a risk management strategy,” Ed explained. “Through services like loss control and claims advocacy, The Horton Group helps clients both reduce the risk of accidental loss and efficiently finance and manage those losses that do occur. TCOR reports only further demonstrate the importance of a strong risk management program.”
Although Ed's clients come from an array of industries, manufacturers and school districts have become his niche markets. Business owners and superintendents applaud Ed's expertise when he presents their insurance proposals each year.
“It is somewhat unique for an insurance broker to also present the plan to a school board, but that is the only way this company would have it,” Ed concluded. “Exceeding the expectations of our clients has been the foundation of The Horton Group. My team and I follow up with our clients throughout the year – not just at renewal time.”

When Ed Young, Jr. and The Horton Group talked to us about exploring the risks and rewards of their new captive insurance company, we were quite intrigued but knew little about how the concept worked. In the first few years of the captive’s existence, we have been extremely pleased with its operation and with the increased control it has provided.

We love doing business with The Horton Group for a number of reasons, but the biggest selling point is the responsiveness of our broker, Ed Young, Jr., and his team. There is an open line of communication maintained between us. This is something we value greatly.
