ORLAND PARK, IL – February 7, 2024 – The Horton Group announced that it will mentor the Illinois State University team competing in Selective Insurance’s 2024 College Competition. This annual program provides aspiring insurance professionals with enriching, hands-on experiences that give real-world insights into a potential insurance career.
Two mentors from Horton will participate in the competition: George Daly, president of Horton’s personal lines division, and Tricia Pucek, chief financial officer. They will guide the Illinois State University team’s operation of a simulated insurance agency as it competes against six teams from universities nationwide. The team operating the highest-performing agency during the month-long challenge will be declared the winner.

Selective’s College Competition takes place during February, commonly known as Insurance Careers Month, and showcases the dynamic and rewarding careers available within the insurance industry. The student teams will leverage their education and experience with their insurance agency mentors to build market share for their simulated agency, develop insurance products and services, grow profit, promote their agency, and contend with competitors. Selective will award a monetary donation to the top three teams’ chapters of Gamma Iota Sigma, an international professional fraternity that promotes, encourages, and sustains student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science professions. The 2024 College Competition participating universities include Appalachian State University, Illinois State University, Indiana State University, Le Moyne College, Middle Tennessee State University, Temple University, and University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
