This program will discuss the new federal tax law, including important recent regulations promulgated by the Treasury concerning estate taxes, and how all of the same affect a business owner’s succession plans. Our speaker will discuss succession planning alternatives available to business owners and the key considerations for each alternative. Specifically, the program will address the tax, estate planning, and business considerations in selling a business to family, third parties or employees, and in giving the business to younger generations.

George L. Schoenbeck is a partner in the firm of Sosin, Arnold & Schoenbeck, Ltd.  He represents clients in estate planning, estate administration, business succession planning, business general counsel matters, and commercial transactions. He enjoys assisting his clients in navigating through the various obstacles they face in their estate and business matters. George Schoenbeck received his juris doctor from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and was conferred a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.Mr. Schoenbeck has written articles published in the Illinois Bar Journal and various legal publications on the topics of estate planning, estate administration and business succession planning. He has lectured to lawyers at various continuing legal education seminars regarding the same topics.

Mr. Schoenbeck was the runner-up in the Illinois State Bar Association’s 2008 Lincoln Legal Writing Contest. In 2017, Mr. Schoenbeck received the Board of Governor’s Award from the Illinois State Bar Association for his distinguished service to the legal profession. He has been named a Rising Star By Super Lawyers Magazine since 2017.
