Christie Schuh is a Sales Executive for Horton’s Select Business Division. In this role, Christie is responsible for providing Horton clients with comprehensive, cost-effective, and innovative solutions to meet their most complex, risk-related employee benefit challenges, opportunities, and insurance needs.

Before joining Horton, Christie worked at Gallagher as an Area Vice President and at ADP in many roles, with her last being a TotalSource PEO Senior District Manager and CPA Specialist. She consulted with C-Level Executives in small to mid-sized organizations as they related to Human Capital Management. She also formulated strategies around talent life cycle, benefits and compensation, risk and safety.

“Working with organizations ranging from start-ups to jumbo-sized employers in an HR and benefits capacity has provided me with the experience and knowledge to help my clients through whatever challenges come their way,” Christie says.

When it comes to her philosophy on the current state of insurance and the industry, she believes that the relationship matters just as much, if not more, as the product you’re selling.

“I believe that client advocacy and customer service are the fundamental building blocks of retaining clientele, as well as receiving referrals from that same clientele,” she says. “People buy from people they like, trust and believe will be there for them when they need it.”

Christie believes that being truthful is the best way to approach business and service her clients: “Being truthful is non-negotiable for me,” she says. “It’s not about winning your business. It’s about helping your organization get to where it needs to be, in an ethical manner.”

In her role as a Sales Executive, she finds it most rewarding to help employers grow their organizations by offering competitive benefits plans that are truly valued and appreciated by their employees.

“Every year insurance gets more expensive for organizations, and it becomes more challenging for them to compete for talent,” she says. “What matters the most is having a consultant you trust to be there, bringing thoughtful, proactive solutions to help mitigate this impact on their bottom line; allowing organizations to maintain being an employer of choice while helping them achieve their short- and long-term goals. Excellent service and client advocacy is the most important part of our jobs.”

Christie received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Technology at State University of New York College, in Buffalo, New York. She also received her Associate of Arts and Sciences (A.A.S.) in Advertising and Marketing Communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology, graduating Summa Cum Laude. In her free time, she enjoys staying active and being outdoors, whether at the beach, on a bike ride, or skiing, which she’s done since she was 10 years old. When it comes to sports, she is a big fan of watching and attending football and hockey games.
