Gary Glader, CSP
Practice Group Leader - Safety
Gary Glader is the Practice Group Leader for Safety. Since 1991, Horton’s professional safety consulting team provides consulting services to a growing number of construction, manufacturing, public entity, and transportation entities.
“Our role as a client’s “part-time safety director” is to identify the opportunities to prevent injuries and accidents. The “side effects” of preventing injuries and accidents are many, including reduced cost, improved productivity, and improved morale,” Gary explains. “We are able to bring industry leading solutions to clients who lack the internal resources necessary to achieve optimum results.”
“When I joined Horton in 1991 to develop the safety consulting practice, I realized how many small and medium sized employers, who couldn’t justify a full time safety position, needed the services of a safety professional. As a client’s part-time safety director, we are able to improve a client’s safety program and provide a significant return on the relatively small investment made in the safety services we provide.”
Prior to creating Horton’s safety consulting division, Gary worked in various safety positions in the petro-chemical and manufacturing industries in Houston, Texas. “The work I did before joining Horton provided great experience and background, but the work we do now helping small and medium sized business develop and implement effective safety programs has become my passion.”
With 15 full-time safety professionals on staff, Gary’s role has shifted from safety practitioner to leader and mentor. “Without question, the most satisfying part of my job is working with and developing the younger safety consultants on our team. Safety is a people-oriented business, and our success depends entirely on motivating everyone involved to make the right choices and decisions.”
Away from work, Gary and his wife enjoy making frequent visits to Colorado to visit their daughter and her family. You might also see Gary on the first, and last, chair lift at various Colorado ski resorts. “The awesome view from the top of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains is a spiritual experience.” Gary explains.
